Go to the cinema (and skip the crowds)

Skip the crowds and ring in 2026 at Cinema Dlabačov, which is hosting a Tim Burton marathon on Dec. 31 from 6 p.m. See The Nightmare Before Christmas (6 p.m.), Beetlejuice (8 p.m.), and Ed Wood (10 p.m.), before hitting midnight with the legendary so-bad-it’s-good sci-fi Plan 9 from Outer Space at 11:59 p.m.

Prague’s art-house cinemas are packed with notable premieres and special screenings throughout Dec. 31, many starting as early as midday. Highlights include preview screenings of Hamnet, Marty Supreme, and Father Mother Sister Brother at Světozor, Bio Oko, Lucerna, and Aero, alongside classics like The Big Lebowski and The Apartment.

Café culture over clubbing

If packed clubs aren’t your thing, several Prague cafés offer a relaxed New Year’s Eve with music and atmosphere.

Café El Dorado, situated beside Kinský Palace and Kinský Gardens, offers a combination of drinks and buffet, accompanied by Latino music and an evening DJ program, in a scenic and historic setting just steps from Petřín Hill.

In Old Town, Café Hybernia hosts a rooftop New Year’s Eve party overlooking central Prague, featuring DJs, special cocktails, and a heated terrace that offers views without the club-level prices.

For live music fans, Rock Café on Národní třída welcomes Czech surf-rock veterans The Atavists, with tickets starting under CZK 290, making it one of the night’s best-value concerts. The Globe Bookstore and Café's Wednesday trivia night is scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m.

Casual eats, international vibe

Skip the Old Town crush and ring in 2026 at these laid-back neighborhood spots. Third Coast Pizza in Žižkov serves Detroit-style pies and craft cocktails until 11 p.m., plus complimentary prosecco at midnight.

La Patrona (Karlín or Dlouhá) offers a festive three-course Mexican menu (CZK 950) featuring ahi tuna tostadas, the chef’s selection of tacos, and tres leches, accompanied by welcome drinks and a lively bar atmosphere.

Philly & Co's Original Cheesesteaks keeps it casual with cheesesteaks, holiday punch, and prosecco deals, then leads a group walk to Vítkov Hill at 11 p.m. for fireworks with "one of the best views in town."

Just for early birds

If midnight fireworks aren’t your thing, Manifesto Market’s New Year's Eve Intermezzo runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., perfect for families or anyone who won’t make it for the long haul. Entry is free, with DJs, kids’ activities, heaters, and a festive atmosphere, plus optional drink packages if you want to splurge a little without committing to an all-nighter.

Party in unconventional settings

Compact Disco’s New Year’s party at Station 6 is an alternative to the mega-club experience. Taking place in a renovated former train station in Bubeneč, located right by Stromovka Park, the platform and hall are transformed into a dance floor. Outside, burning barrels and two bars warm up partygoers, with Window Deli handling food. Begins at 8 p.m.

Kafkoff is a newly opened bistro, bar, and gallery that occupies a corner adjacent to a Baroque house on what is now Franz Kafka Square, where Franz Kafka was born in 1883. The New Year's Eve party will see the entire space transformed into a dance floor. Free with a dinner reservation; CZK 500 at the door (CZK 400 presale).

Comedy before Champagne

Metro Comedy Club near Charles Bridge pairs a 90-minute English-language comedy show with unlimited drinks, followed by fireworks over Prague Castle and Charles Bridge, and a late-night party at the club, perfect for a lively, laughter-filled NYE (early birds can show up for a 4 p.m. matinee as well).

Pick a park, grab a bottle, and bundle up

Prague has cancelled fireworks and video-mapping on New Year’s Eve and day in favor of offering discounts at local attractions on Jan. 1. But that hasn’t stopped locals from planning their own unsanctioned displays at midnight.

For optimal viewing, Letná Park (near the Metronome) is the ultimate local favorite, high enough to stay above the smoke, close enough to feel the boom, with views of Old Town, the bridges, and both riverbanks erupting simultaneously.

Vyšehrad offers a more romantic, historic setting atop the southern fortress walls. Petřín Hill (near the lookout tower) gives you the highest vantage point in Prague. Riegrovy Sady in Vinohrady has a laid-back neighborhood vibe. Temps are predicted to drop to -1°C at night with significant wind chill, making it feel like -4°C!

Staying in? Grocery stores close early on Dec. 31: see holiday opening hours here. Food delivery service Wolt says it's operating as usual but might see delays due to the high volume of orders.
