Prague City Hall raises rainbow flag today in support of Prague Pride

Prague, Aug 3 (CTK) – The Prague City Hall has raised a rainbow flag in support of the tenth annual Prague Pride festival, which kicks off today. The flag was raised at the New City Hall building today.

“Prague has openly promoted tolerance of all minorities, be it sexual or other. We want to show that Prague is a modern metropolis, in which everyone has a good life and no people are persecuted for what they are,” Hana Trestikova (Prague Sobe) said.

Vit Simral (Pirates) said that City Hall’s having raised the rainbow flag did not harm the values of traditional society or family in any way, as claimed by critics.

The festival will kick off on Strelecky Island in Prague late this afternoon. During the week, there will be exhibitions, sports events, lectures, discussions, screenings, and stand-up performances. A part of the program is free.

The events will broadcast live online. Organizers hope that due to the streaming option, the festival will reach the whole nation.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the number of places in the events will be limited. For the same reason, fewer guests from abroad are expected and the usual rainbow march will not be held. Instead, there will be a boat trip on the Vltava River.

Last year, the festival was attended by 75,000 people, which was the lowest number over the past five years.
