Silent Friend, the latest film from unconventional Hungarian filmmaker Ildikó Enyedi, follows a century of human connection through the eyes of a ginkgo biloba tree at a German university, linking stories from the 1900s, the 1970s, and the Covid-19 era.
The Prague Reporter calls it "a thoughtful, visually exquisite meditation on curiosity, solitude, and humanity’s place within the natural world." The meditative drama is now playing with English subtitles at Kino Světozor, Kino Aero, and Bio Oko.

🎞️ The Throwback
Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, Jaromil Jireš’ surreal 1970 landmark of the Czech New Wave, returns this year in a newly restored version that will compete in the Venice Classics section at the Venice International Film Festival next month.
The gothic coming-of-age fantasy follows a young girl navigating a dreamlike world of vampires, religion, desire, and transformation, and makes an ideal thematic pairing with this week’s Prague Pride festival through its exploration of identity and self-discovery.
