Widespread bomb threat targets 400 Czech government offices and shopping centers

Police across the Czech Republic are investigating a sweeping mass bomb threat sent to roughly 400 government offices, shopping malls, and public facilities on Monday morning.

Officers are actively searching affected sites and reaching out to building operators while keeping most locations open to the public. Police officials currently assess the immediate severity of the threat as low, though safety precautions have disrupted operations at key state offices.

Among the impacted locations is the Ministry of the Environment in Prague’s Vršovice district, where security directors ordered an immediate evacuation following the warning. Staff members were instructed to work from home for the remainder of the day while police dogs and specialized officers inspected the premises.

"Upon the decision of the security director, the building was immediately evacuated, and employees were instructed to work from home for the entire day for safety reasons," said Kateřina Paříková from the ministry’s press department.

"In cooperation with the Czech police, we are currently searching the ministry’s premises."

Despite the widespread nature of the alert, major government hubs, including the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, reported that they had not received any threats and continued standard daily operations.

The headquarters of the Czech Labour Office, the Labour Inspectorate, and the Czech Social Security Administration also remained unaffected.

In a public statement released on social media, police confirmed that the threat claimed booby-trapped explosive devices had been placed in locations nationwide.

Law enforcement requested that any building managers or business operators who received the threatening message contact the emergency hotline immediately.

"This morning, we received a report of a mass threat involving the placement of explosive devices across Czechia," police stated.

"We are gradually contacting operators and inspections are being conducted while normal operations continue."

Police headquarters declined to disclose additional specifics regarding the exact origin, format, or wording of the threat, noting that further details would be released as the ongoing investigation progresses.

Public services remain largely operational, though localized delays or temporary access restrictions may occur near targeted municipal and administrative buildings.
