🎞️ The Throwback
Two landmark features by Czech animation pioneer Jiří Trnka are receiving renewed international attention this week with a new Blu-ray release of restored versions of The Czech Year and Old Czech Legends. The films showcase Trnka’s elaborate handcrafted puppets and miniature sets while drawing on Czech folklore, history and traditions.
The new two-disc collection, which can be purchased at Amazon.co.uk, brings Trnka’s restored classics to international audiences alongside archival material and his acclaimed short The Hand. In Czechia, both The Czech Year and Old Czech Legends can be streamed with English subtitles on KVIFF.tv.
