Czech MPs from the lower house of Parliament – the Chamber of Deputies – will gather tomorrow from 9 a.m. for an extraordinary meeting.

After what’s bound to turn into heated and fiery debates, they will vote on whether to grant or reject the courts’ requests to lift the immunity of, first, Prime Minister and ANO chairman Andrej Babiš and, secondly, of House Speaker and leader of the far-right Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party, Tomio Okamura.

Under Czech law, deputies (and senators) have immunity from criminal prosecution for the duration of their mandate, a protection that can only be lifted should the Chamber of Deputies (or the Senate) vote to waive that right.
