Construction on Prague’s new Metro D line has reached a major milestone: Olbrachtova is now the first fully completed station. The work marks the start of what promises to be one of the city’s most important infrastructure projects in recent years.
The first section of Metro D, running from Pankrác to Olbrachtova, began construction in April 2022. At Olbrachtova, all escalators, track tunnels, and technical areas have been finished, making it the first station on the line to reach full completion.

Excavation work continues at the future public area of Pankrác station, with the southern vestibule expected to open in the second quarter of 2026.
For those navigating southern Prague, there is practical news: the section of Na Strži street affected by the construction will reopen in mid-December in a 1+1 lane configuration, easing some of the current traffic restrictions.
The scale of the project is substantial, according to numbers from the city's transit authority.
During the construction of Olbrachtova, builders removed 61,160 cubic meters of rubble, used 1,156 tons of steel reinforcement, 19,878 cubic meters of sprayed concrete, and over 13,800 cubic meters of cast concrete for secondary structures. The station is designed to modern standards, featuring fully accessible escalators and state-of-the-art technical systems.
Construction of the entire Metro D line is scheduled to be completed by early 2028, connecting southern districts to Prague’s existing metro network and improving commuting options; once completed, the line is expected to reduce congestion on the city’s roads.
Construction of Metro D began in 2022 and will eventually link Pankrác to Depo Písnice, with future extensions toward Náměstí Míru and Náměstí Republiky.
