Svařák has been part of Prague’s seasonal traditions for centuries. Once mostly a source of warm relief found at bustling Christmas markets, it’s now a fixture in cafes, bistros, and bakeries across the city, each putting its own spin on this classic drink.

Served hot and spiced just right, Czechia’s version of mulled wine pairs perfectly with other goodies throughout the colder seasons, inviting you to slow down and soak in the holidays one sip at a time.

We asked the experts at Ambiente Group where to enjoy svařák across Prague.

Bokovka

Svařák hits differently at Bokovka, mainly because the people behind it are actual sommeliers who approach this winter staple with the same dedication they pour into their revered wine list. The result is a warm, perfectly balanced cup where the spices don’t overpower the wine but highlight it. Hidden in a courtyard in the heart of Old Town, the bar itself has a cozy, slightly artsy vibe that feels made for slow sipping, good conversation, and long winter nights.

Osada

Good svařák is all about balance, and that’s exactly why it works so well at Osada. The team here approaches everything with precision, from their coffee to their pastries, so their take on mulled wine lands warm, clean, and thoughtfully spiced rather than heavy or overly sweet. The space, tucked into a quiet corner of Holešovice, is cozy but airy, with soft lighting and a calm vibe, making it the perfect spot to linger with friends or a book.

Myšák

If you’re wandering around the city center and need a warm up, Myšák offers the tastes of winter in a cup. The svařák here is fragrant, nicely spiced, and it pairs well with anything from the pastry counter. Picking up a box of their holiday treats and a svařák to go is an excellent way to brighten a cold winter day, so grab a slice of cake, a Christmas sweet, or even a chlebíček if you are craving something savory. For additional sips of the season, try their eggnog or hot chocolate.

Poctivý Svařák (Honest Mulled Wine)

With locations at markets throughout Prague, Poctivý Svařák (Honest Mulled Wine) brews each cup with real wine, carefully balanced spices, and a seasonal dried plum for a subtle, fruity note. The team treats mulled wine like sommeliers, keeping it honest and free from artificial additives or cloying sweetness. Fans can track and sample multiple locations using the “Tour de Svařák” app. Even the President of the Czech Republic has enjoyed a tipple, a testament to its quality and tradition.

Café Savoy

Café Savoy feels especially magical during the holidays, when a towering Christmas tree transforms the elegant dining room into something straight out of a winter postcard. It’s a lovely spot to settle in with a cup of svařák, fragrant and just sweet enough, offering the perfect counter to the outside chill. If you’re in the mood for something a bit richer, the cafe’s port and sherry are also good seasonal choices that can be nicely paired with the kitchen’s delectable offerings.

Bjukitchen

At Bjukitchen, the svařák is inviting, warm, and expertly spiced. It’s an easy way to treat yourself, especially when accompanied by a slice of homemade honey gingerbread. The New Town cafe combines breakfast, brunch, and light meals with a relaxed bistro vibe, featuring soft lighting, casual seating, and a steady, friendly atmosphere, creating an ambiance that feels both lively and intimate. It’s the kind of spot where you can enjoy your mulled wine, chat with a friend, or just take a few minutes to shake off the winter cold.

Kuchyň

Nestled just below Prague Castle, Kuchyň turns a simple cup of svařák into a whole winter experience. Inside, the space feels like a rustic palace kitchen, with warm wooden tones and the comforting aroma of spiced wine filling the air. During the holidays, a Christmas tree adds instant festive magic, while sweeping city views make every sip feel special. Whether you’re lingering with friends or taking a quiet moment for yourself, it’s the perfect spot to cozy up, soak in the castle backdrop, and let Prague’s winter charm work its magic.

Pastacaffé

When the holiday crowds in the city center start to overwhelm, slipping into a quieter spot for a proper cup of svařák can offer a welcome reset. Pastacaffé’s mulled wine is warm, fragrant, and far more satisfying than anything you’ll pick up at an Old Town market stall, especially if you pair it with a few vanilla Christmas rohlíčky. The mix of comfort and calm makes the spot a great choice to chill after work or before heading to the Staromák markets with friends.

Kro Vinohrady

Just a few steps from the Christmas markets at Jiřího z Poděbrad, Kro is a great spot to recharge before heading back out into the festive bustle. Their svařák hits just right, and the pastries coming out of the bakery are hard to ignore. The space keeps things bright and relaxed, with the familiar rhythm of a lively neighborhood bistro.

300km

This little bakery, a relative newcomer to Žižkov’s punky cafe scene, has a vibe that just works when you’re in the mood for low-key and cozy. The svařák goes down smooth and spicy, pairing nicely with fresh-baked pastries or cakes rooted in old Moravian recipes. The space is intimate, with warm lighting, rustic wooden tables, and the aroma of fresh sweets perfuming the air, creating an inviting nook to relax with a hot drink.

TIP: Enjoy a cup of svařák, Klub Ambiente’s drink of the month, while picking out Ambiente gift cards and foodie treats for holiday gifting.
