Prague public transport discounts: Who can ride for free or at a reduced rate?

Who rides for free in the Czech capital? Prague residents facing financial hardship will once again be able to access discounted public transport fares from August, with a new reduced-price pass introduced for people receiving the living allowance component of Czechia’s state social assistance benefit.

Many other groups, including children, students, seniors and people with disabilities, can already qualify for free or reduced travel. The discounts are available only after passengers prove their eligibility, with most applications now handled through the online PID Lítačka system.

People receiving the living allowance component of Czechia’s new state social assistance benefit can once again use discounted public transport in Prague from Aug. 1, 2026.

Eligible passengers can purchase a monthly Prague Integrated Transport (PID) pass for CZK 165 after being added to a new reduced-fare category. The discount is intended for people facing difficult financial circumstances and returns a benefit that was previously available in the Czech capital.

The reduced fare applies to recipients of the living allowance component (složka na živobytí) under the new state social assistance system. Passengers must apply for the category before purchasing their discounted pass through the PID Lítačka online store.

The entire process takes place electronically. Applicants need a digital confirmation from the Czech Labor Office proving they receive the relevant benefit. The confirmation is available through the Jenda online system and must be uploaded to the PID Lítačka account.

The discounted monthly pass can only be purchased after approval and cannot be applied retroactively to already purchased tickets.

Several other groups can also travel for free or at reduced rates on Prague’s public transport network, including children, students, seniors and people with disabilities.

Children under 15 can travel free in Prague under certain conditions. Children under 10 do not need to prove their age, while those aged 10 to 15 must show an approved document with their name, date of birth and photograph, such as an official ID or student card.

Teenagers aged 15 to 18 qualify for discounted long-term passes in Prague, regardless of whether they are studying. The discount applies only to monthly, quarterly or annual passes, not individual tickets.

Students between 18 and 26 can also receive discounted long-term passes if they prove they are enrolled in full-time study. Accepted documents include a valid ISIC card, student card or official confirmation of enrollment. Students studying abroad can use a valid ISIC card to prove eligibility.

Seniors receive additional benefits based on age. People aged 60 to 65 can access discounted fares after proving their age, while passengers aged 65 and older can travel free in Prague after registering their eligibility.

People with ZTP or ZTP/P disability cards can use Prague public transport free of charge. Holders of ZTP/P cards can also travel with a guide or assistance animal when traveling together.

Free travel is also available for people accompanying children under age 3, provided they can prove the child’s age.

Some other groups qualify for special fare categories, including certain socially vulnerable passengers and people receiving third-degree disability pensions. Eligibility must be documented according to PID requirements.

Most discounts require passengers to activate their eligibility before purchasing a pass. Depending on the category, proof can be linked through the PID Lítačka system, provided through a PID card, or verified at a Dopravní podnik hl. m. Prahy (DPP) sales location.

Passengers should check their eligibility and required documents before buying a pass, as discounts generally cannot be applied after a full-price ticket has already been purchased.
