Weather White Christmas unlikely for much of Czechia

Data from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute data shows that white Christmas is most likely in mountain areas above 1,000 meters in Czechia, with an 80–90 percent chance of snow. In regional cities, probabilities range from 20 percent in South Moravia and Prague to 50–60 percent in Liberec. Mid-altitude towns such as Jihlava, Zlín, and Karlovy Vary have a 30–40 percent chance. Lowland snow remains unlikely.

Politics Motorists to keep Turek as ministerial nominee

The Motorists party insists Filip Turek remains its nominee for environment minister, despite President Petr Pavel expressing legal reservations, MP Boris Stastný told CNN Prima News. Turek and party leader Petr Macinka swapped ministerial posts earlier to facilitate government formation. The party says it sees no legal impediment, while discussions with the President continue ahead of a potential mid-December government appointment.

Economy Survey: Most Czechs continue to cut energy use

A majority of Czechs have reduced energy consumption over the past two years, with 57 percent limiting use, according to an Ipsos survey for energy supplier Epet. Households mainly lowered heating temperatures, adjusted heating periods, or invested in insulation and efficient heating systems. Despite falling energy prices, many continue monitoring consumption. About 41 percent saw no price drop in bills, and one-third spend 20–40 percent of monthly expenses on energy.

Crime Pedestrian struck, killed by police car in Prague

A pedestrian died after being hit by a police car near a tram stop in Prague-Smíchov Friday night, authorities said. The car, responding to a reported incident with its siren on, struck the victim despite immediate first aid. The General Inspection of Security Forces is investigating. Police expressed regret and said the probe will clarify whether the accident could have been prevented.

Europe Czechia to chair EU Pompidou Group

Czechia will chair the Council of Europe’s Pompidou Group on drugs and addictions in 2028–29, the Council announced. Austria leads in 2026–27, with Mexico as vice chair. Between 2026 and 2029, the group will focus on prevention, treatment, harm reduction, supply control, and new threats such as synthetic drugs and digital dependency among youth.
