1️⃣ ANO seeks to scrap ‘foreign power’ crime
The ANO movement plans to repeal a law criminalizing unauthorized activity for a foreign power, calling it vague and unnecessary. Outgoing Interior Minister Vít Rakušan warns the move could weaken security, arguing the law helps punish those sharing sensitive information abroad. The Constitutional Court is already reviewing the provision’s legality after senators challenged it.
2️⃣ ČEZ cuts power, gas prices for 1.6 M homes
Energy giant ČEZ will lower electricity and gas prices for 1.6 million customers starting January 1. Power will drop CZK 240 per MWh and gas CZK 70. Prices adjust automatically, no action required. The firm also offers dynamic tariffs that can save up to 50 percent during off-peak hours. Other suppliers, including E.ON and Pražská energetika, have also announced price cuts.
4️⃣ No white horse for St. Martin this year
Czech skies will stay cloudy with rain through Tuesday, meteorologists say, with no snow expected for St. Martin’s Day. Temperatures will reach up to 11°C before clearing midweek and warming to 15°C on Friday. A cold front is forecast to return over the weekend, bringing cooler air and rain—and snow only in mountain areas.
3️⃣ Train crash near Bratislava injures dozens
Two express trains collided near Pezinok, north of Bratislava, Sunday evening, lightly injuring dozens and sending 11 to hospital, Slovak officials said. No one was killed. Authorities say one train likely ran a red light before being hit from behind. About 800 passengers were aboard, many students. Slovakia’s government will meet Monday to discuss the second major train crash in a month.
5️⃣ Kubista still life sets Czech auction record
A 1913 still-life painting by Czech Cubist Bohumil Kubista sold for CZK 44.2 million at auction in Prague, the highest price for a still life ever in Central and Eastern Europe. The rare piece, held privately for over a century, topped this year’s Czech art sales according to auction house Adolf Loos Apartment & Gallery. The auction also set several new records for domestic artists.
