ANO leads Czech election poll despite dip

The ANO party would win Czech parliamentary elections with 32 percent support despite a slight decline, according to a Kantar model for Czech Television released May 10. STAN would follow with 16 percent and ODS with 15.5 percent, with the two opposition parties still trailing ANO combined. Six parties would enter parliament, and turnout is estimated at 63.5 percent based on late-April polling.

'Absolute madness': Foreign press on Prague Derby

Foreign media described the abandoned Prague derby between Slavia Prague and Sparta Prague as “absolute madness” after fans invaded the pitch on May 9 during stoppage time, forcing the match to be suspended with Slavia leading 3–2. Reports cited pyrotechnics and alleged attacks on Sparta players, and potential bans. The disciplinary committee is expected to rule on possible sanctions, including a forfeit.

Sudeten Germans congress sparks political debate

A planned Sudeten German Landsmannschaft congress in Brno has drawn political criticism, with Deputy Prime Minister Karel Havlíček questioning its suitability in Czechia. Government and opposition figures are divided over the event, which addresses historical reconciliation. Organizers say it aims to promote dialogue, while critics warn it could reopen historical tensions.

Senate speaker warns against dehumanizing language

Czech Senate speaker Miloš Vystrčil said at a May 10 memorial in Lety that the Czech constitution rejects describing any group as “parasites” or as inferior, in remarks linked to recent statements by Motorists politicians. The ceremony honored Roma and Sinti victims of a WWII-era concentration camp. Vystrčil also apologized for past offensive language and urged responsibility in public speech.

Polish truck carrying illegal waste seized

Czech customs officers intercepted a Polish truck near Dolní Dvořiště on May 10 carrying nearly 24 tonnes of illegally transported waste. The shipment was declared as plastic granulate but contained construction debris, wood, metal and other materials, officials said. The Czech Environmental Inspectorate confirmed illegal cross-border transport and seized the material for further investigation.
