Czech man suspected of murder shot dead in Spain
A 33-year-old Czech man has been shot dead in the southern Spanish town of Torrevieja, the BBC reported earlier today. The Czech citizen was reportedly suspected of being involved in the murder of a British national in Spain in 2024, and had been released on bail while forbidden from leaving the country as long as the investigation was underway.

Czechia sees warmer than average winter
This year's (hopefully soon-to-end) winter in the Czech Republic was warmer than the historic norm, according to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ), with average temperatures from December to late February reaching -0.2 degrees Celsius. In terms of precipitation, it was also the ninth poorest since the early 1960's. The 2006-2007 winter was the warmest on record in the Czech Republic.

Inflation in Czechia falls to nine-year low
The annual inflation rate in the Czech Republic stood at 1.4 percent in February, according to preliminary estimates published by the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO). Year-on-year, prices for energy and goods fell while services rose by 4.5 percent and tobacco and alcoholic drinks increased by 4 percent. This is the lowest inflation rate since October 2016, but experts warn that the war in the Middle East could lead to prolonged higher energy prices.

Two Prague cinemas ranked among world's 100 best
Edison Filmhub and Kino Lucerna have been included in TimeOut's ranking of "the 100 greatest cinemas in the world right now." In 75th place just six years after opening, Edison Filmhub is described as an ideal destination "for design pilgrims as much as cinephiles." Clocking in at the 62nd place, the historic Kino Lucerna where "art nouveau-meets-art deco" has been a staple of the local scene since...1909.

Czech women's football coach faces lifetime ban
The Czech Football Player's Association is calling for FIFA to issue a lifetime practice ban for Petr Vlachovský, the former coach of the Slovácko women's football team. After being found guilty of secretly filming female players in the locker rooms and showers over four years, Vlachovský received a suspended sentence and five-year ban from Czech football.

Nearly half of respondents, 47 percent, said it would be a good idea as long as it came with a day off work, while over a third (39 percent) consider it unnecessary. 14 percent welcome it as a patriotic gesture.
