This morning's top story
Government likely to reject pension changes
The Czech government is expected to oppose a STAN proposal aimed at encouraging younger people to save for retirement. The bill, proposed by the opposition party, would allow for higher state support in the first year of saving and mandatory employer contributions for workers who request them and also save independently.
Backing savings: The government says a Finance Ministry pension savings amendment already addresses the issue more comprehensively. It also considers special support for younger savers and proposed fund fee cuts to be insufficiently justified or difficult to administer.

Czechia signs arms deal with Montenegro
Czechia will supply Montenegro with nearly CZK 600 million worth of weapons and military equipment under a new defense agreement announced Friday after talks in Prague between Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić. The deal includes thousands of Czech-made firearms, ammunition, and related equipment for Montenegro's armed forces.
Key details: Manufacturer Colt CZ Group will provide CZ BREN 3 rifles, pistols, sniper rifles, submachine guns, and ammunition. During the visit, Babiš also reaffirmed Czechia's support for Montenegro's planned European Union accession, expected in 2028.
Soldiers stable after helicopter crash
Four Czech soldiers injured in a military helicopter crash at the Náměšť air base in South Moravia remain conscious and in stable condition, the army said Friday. A female soldier died when the Venom helicopter crashed during a routine training flight on Thursday, prompting the military to ground its Venom and Viper fleet.
What we know: The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with military leaders stressing the inquiry is focused on preventing similar accidents rather than assigning blame. Army officials said they are supporting the injured soldiers and their families.
More Czech firefighters deployed to France
Another team of Czech firefighters and a Black Hawk helicopter arrived in southwestern France on Friday to help battle major wildfires under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The aircraft landed near Bordeaux after departing from Přerov, joining international efforts to contain blazes that have forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate.
Wider context: The Czech crew includes two pilots, two technicians, and three firefighters specializing in aerial firefighting. Czechia previously deployed two Black Hawk helicopters to France earlier this month, with those crews returning home on Monday.
