Willem Dafoe to Be Honored in Karlovy Vary

Willem Dafoe, known for his roles in and The English Patient and Spider-Man, among other films, has been announced as the recipient of the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, set to kick off on July 1.

Dafoe has twice been nominated for an Oscar, for 1986’s Platoon and 2002’s Shadow of a Vampire.

In honor of Dafoe, the festival will screen two of his features with the actor on hand: last year’s Pasolini, directed by Abel Ferrera, and Martin Scorsese’s 1987 classic The Last Temptation of Christ, which will play at the festival’s outdoor summer cinema on the evening of July 3.

Also honored at this year’s festival will be writer-director Charlie Kaufman, who rose to prominence as the screenwriter behind Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind before making his directing debut with Synecdoche, New York.

Kaufman will be on hand to receive the festival’s President’s Award this year and present his latest film, Anomalisa.

The 2016 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will kick off on Friday, July 1, with the world-premiere screening of the Prague-shot film Anthropoid.

Joining Dafoe and Kaufman at this year’s festival will be Anthropoid director Sean Ellis and the film’s stars, Jamie Dornan and Toby Jones. The trailer for the WWII drama was released last week:
