Last week, the European Commission released its first ever edition of the “Cultural Creative Cities Monitor” a ranking that reflects how well culture and creativity help cities to thrive.

This new tool provides comparable data on how European cities perform across nine dimensions – covering culture and creativity – and underlines how their performance contributes to cities’ social development and economic growth and job creation.

The research project covers 168 cities in 30 European countries; Prague ranks high, coming in at number three in its “XXL” population group, beating out only by Paris (#1) and Munich (#2), with Milan and Brussels following the Czech capital in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

From the study: “[Prague] today offers hundreds of concert halls, museums, galleries, movie theatres, music clubs, and internationally acclaimed festivals. The most famous festival is the Prague Spring International Music Festival, which welcomes music professionals and fans from all over the world.”

Prague was also praised for its Impact Hub, “A place that offers various types of collaboration, inspiring events and start-up acceleration to creative people. Impact Hubs can be found in more than 80 big cities across the world, such as Moscow, New York City, Singapore and Kyoto.”
