Czech MPs overrode a Senate veto Wednesday and approved a major amendment to the Building Act, including a centralized system of state building authorities. The governing coalition says the changes will simplify and accelerate construction permitting, while opponents argue they favor developers and weaken municipalities.

What changes: Projects should undergo one consolidated approval process handled by a single authority. Regional capitals will be allowed to issue their own building regulations. The legislation now goes to President Petr Pavel for his signature.

Czech fighter pilot Aleš Svoboda is beginning mission-specific training for a planned 2027 flight to the International Space Station, including preparation to pilot a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. Training will take place over the coming months in Europe and the United States.

Mission status: Svoboda will train with Vast, SpaceX and NASA, covering launch, docking, emergencies and return procedures. The CZK 2 billion Czech mission will also carry 13 Czech scientific and technological experiments to the ISS.

Four people were injured in a mass brawl between two groups on Prague’s Hlávkův Bridge on Monday afternoon, temporarily stopping traffic on the busy route. Participants reportedly got out of their cars and fought in the roadway, with one person wielding what police believe was a pickaxe handle.
