Drivers heading into Prague from the D8 motorway face new traffic restrictions from Friday, October 23, as extensive roadworks begin on Cínovecká Street. The repairs are scheduled to continue until December 10, affecting one of the main routes into the capital.

The work will focus on the road heading toward the city center, where crews will replace the asphalt surface, repair drainage systems and barriers, and renew road markings, Czech Radio reports.

Major traffic changes on Cínovecká and Liberecká

Traffic heading into Prague will be redirected into two separate lanes. One will continue toward Kbelská Street and Hloubětín, while the other will be temporarily moved onto the opposite carriageway of Liberecká Street for drivers heading toward the city center.

Motorists will return to the normal route near Rochlická Street. However, drivers will no longer be able to exit from Cínovecká or Liberecká toward the Vysočanská–Rochlická intersection during the restrictions.

The connection from Kostelecká Street onto Cínovecká toward the center will also be closed. Drivers can instead use Ďáblická Street or a diversion via Tupolevova and Prosecká.

Repairs scheduled to finish in December

According to Prague's Technical Road Administration (TSK), construction will continue until December 10, overlapping with the third phase of ongoing repairs to the Kbelská interchange.

The work affects Prague 8, Prague 9 and Prague 18, with traffic measures coordinated to maintain access through the northeastern part of the city.

A 24-hour emergency towing service will also operate near the construction site, removing broken-down vehicles free of charge to help prevent additional congestion.

Drivers commuting from northern Bohemia or entering Prague via the D8 should follow temporary road signs and allow extra time for their journeys while the restrictions remain in place.
