Pension costs to rise as retirement age stays 65
Capping the retirement age at 65 in Czechia is projected to start raising pension spending from 2030, reaching nearly CZK 129 billion annually by mid-century, according to a Labour and Social Affairs Ministry document. The plan, welcomed by trade unions but opposed by employers citing labor shortages, slows the previous reform’s one-month-per-year increase. The ministry said the freeze aligns with OECD trends and avoids overly drastic changes.

Rules for funding energy-efficient homes change
Czech Environment Minister Igor Červený announced changes to the New Green Savings program, replacing most energy-saving subsidies with interest-free loans. Only low-income households will remain eligible for direct subsidies of up to CZK 250,000 for insulation and 150,000 for energy-source replacement. Applications for the classic program start in April-May, with NZÚ Light in June. Experts warn the changes may limit the program’s reach amid rising energy prices.
