Today's top news

Czech government to announce NATO delegation

The government is set to reveal the final composition of Czechia's delegation to the upcoming NATO summit after its cabinet meeting later this afternoon. The long-awaited announcement follows a week of escalation between the three-party ruling coalition and President Petr Pavel over who will lead the delegation next week in Ankara, Turkey.

A quick reminder. The government last week said they didn't expect Pavel to be part of the delegation, leading the president to file a constitutional lawsuit. Within days, the Constitutional Court issued a preliminary injunction ordering the government to include the head of state, but it is still slightly unclear who will officially lead the Czech delegation, and how roles and attendance will be divvied up during the summit.

Youth criminality on the rise

Although overall crime figures remained roughly at the same level in 2025 as the year before, more violent cases are increasing, especially among children and younger teenagers, according to the latest report from the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office (NSZ). Top state prosecutor Lenka Bradáčová had already warned about the worrying phenomenon when she took office last year.

Experiential violence. Part of the increase is linked to the growing trend of so-called experiential violence, according to NSZ, when children and adolescents commit violent acts as a way to experience new sensations or push one's limits and boundaries.
