Prague will host the 27th edition of the Birell Grand Prix on Saturday, Sept. 7, attracting nearly 8,000 runners from across the globe. The event, which features the Adidas Women’s 5K Run and the Birell 10K Run, will lead to significant temporary traffic restrictions in the city center from around 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., including changes to public transport routes.

The Adidas Women’s 5K Run will begin at 6 p.m. at Náměstí Republiky near the Municipal House. The Birell 10K Run will follow at 7:30 p.m., starting and finishing at the same location.

"On September 7th in the heart of Prague 1 we are going to have two important sporting events, 10K and 5K RunCzech races," Prague 1 Mayor Terezie Radoměřská says in the Birell Grand Prix Event Guide.

"These events attract not only top athletes from all over the world, but also thousands of enthusiastic amateur runners. Sporting events like these not only enliven the atmosphere of our city, but also contribute to its prestige on a global level."

Road closures in Prague

Road closures along the race routes will begin before the events and will be lifted gradually as the runners finish. Key areas affected by full road closures from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. include the lower half of Wenceslas Square, Na Příkopě, and Náměstí Republiky. Between 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., closures will also impact Revoluční Street, the Edvard Beneš Embankment, Štefánikův and Čechův Bridges, and the Letenský Tunnel.

Parking restrictions will be enforced along the race routes, and vehicles not adhering to these restrictions will be towed. These parking bans began on Friday in areas around Náměstí Republiky, Hybernská, and Na Příkopě, continuing until midnight on Saturday.

Public transport restrictions

Public transport in Prague's city center will also be affected, with tram services suspended from approximately 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in areas including Náměstí Republiky, Revoluční Street, and the Edvard Beneš Embankment. Affected tram lines following alternate routes include 8, 15, 17, 26, 27, 34, 41, and 42, as well as bus routes 194 and 207.

Public transport passengers are advised to use metro services, if possible, as an alternative to buses and trams this evening to minimize the impact on their travel. Further information about the Birell Night Run can be found at the website of RunCzech, and additional details about traffic restrictions from Prague Public Transit Company.
