Czechia can expect chilly mornings and spells of autumn sunshine this week before a likely weekend cooldown brings rain and snow in the mountains, according to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, ČHMÚ.

The forecast for Oct. 12–18 includes a brief spell of rain Wednesday, followed by brighter conditions toward the end of the working week. Fog and low cloud will make a substantial difference to daytime temperatures.

The weekend outlook remains uncertain, but meteorologists expect a shift toward colder, cloudier weather. Their longer-range forecast suggests temperatures will remain around or slightly below seasonal averages over the next four weeks.

Sunshine could bring highs of 18 degrees

Tuesday is expected to be mostly dry, with morning temperatures potentially falling below freezing in some places. Where low cloud persists, daytime highs will reach approximately 10 to 13 degrees Celsius.

Isolated showers are possible in northern and northeastern mountain areas early in the week, with light snow above approximately 1,100 meters.

Wednesday will begin with extensive cloud cover. Light rain will move into Bohemia from the west before easing during the day. Morning temperatures in Moravia and Silesia could fall below freezing, while afternoon highs are forecast at 13 to 18 degrees.

Thursday and Friday should bring a return to clearer or partly cloudy skies. Overnight and morning temperatures will generally range from 2 to 7 degrees.

Afternoon sunshine could lift temperatures to 18 degrees, but places remaining beneath fog or low cloud may stay at 12 degrees or below, according to the ČHMÚ weekly forecast cited by ČTK.

Cooler conditions likely to last into late October

For the weekend, meteorologists expect more cloud, rain or showers in some areas and snowfall in the mountains. The timing and extent of the change remain less certain than the weekday forecast.

The monthly outlook through Nov. 8 points to slightly cooler conditions during the two weeks beginning Oct. 19. Daytime temperatures will generally be around 10 degrees Celsius, falling toward 5 degrees where fog or low cloud lingers.

Nighttime lows are expected near 2 degrees, with occasional frost. The week beginning Nov. 2 is more likely to return to average temperatures.

The first half of the four-week period should remain relatively dry, with weekly rainfall totals of up to 5 millimeters. Wetter conditions are expected later, when mountain snow could remain on the ground for several days during colder spells.

For outdoor plans, the brighter weekdays currently offer the better prospect. Anyone heading to the mountains over the weekend should check the updated local forecast and prepare for colder conditions and possible snow.
