Prague's Pizza Nuova cracks list of Europe's top 50 pizzerias

The best pizzerias in Europe have been revealed by Italian pizza authority 50 Top Pizza, and a Prague pizzeria has cracked the list. Pizza Nuova, operated by the Ambiente Group, comes in at number 49 on the list of Europe's best pizzerias outside of Italy.

50 Top Pizza has been ranking the world's best pizzerias since 2017, and ranks the best locations in Italy, Europe, the United States, and across the globe. The European rankings were announced last week during a gala ceremony in Barcelona during the city's Pizza Week 2023.

Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona topped the list of Europe's best pizzerias, ​​followed by Copenhagen's Bæest in second place and London's 50 Kaló in third. Ambiente's Pizza Nuova in Prague just barely cracked the top 50 to become the Czech Republic's lone representative.

"This restaurant has been associated with the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana since 2006: the proposal is in fact absolutely traditional when it comes to the margherita, made by using the direct dough method and with a crust that does not appear too pronounced," reads 50 Top Pizza's description of Pizza Nuova.

"The menu is varied, like with the cured meats and cheeses that meet the local taste. The setting is large and spacious, this venue is part of a historic group that aims to bring Italian authenticity to the capital so there are also pasta specialties and main courses to choose from. Good choice of beers, excellent service."

This isn't the first time that Pizza Nuova has made the 50 Top Pizza list. It previously ranked among the top 50 pizzerias in Europe in 2019, when it came in at number 22 on the list.

Specific qualifications to make the list were not revealed, but 50 Top Pizza has quickly become one of the world's most prestigious pizza awards. Restaurants are reportedly evaluated by more than 1000 anonymous judges worldwide.

While Pizza Nuova was the only Czech pizzeria to crack the top 50 in the 2023 list of Europe's best pizzerias, three other Prague venues were included in 50 Top Pizza's unnumbered list of Europe's "excellent pizzerias": Amunì, San Carlo (New Town location), and Sasy the Original.

Czech neighbors were also represented highly in the list of Europe's top 50 pizzerias, with Vienna's Via Toledo Enopizzeria coming in at number 4 and Pizza Zulù in Fürth, Germany at number 5. Pizzerias in Gdańsk, Warsaw, and Bratislava also featured among the top 50. 

Ambiente's Pizza Nuova, located in Prague's city center at Náměstí Republiky, has long been one of the city's most popular pizzerias. Its hand-rolled pizzas are baked according to Neapolitan tradition in a beech wood oven using ingredients sourced directly from Italy.
