Travel warning

Czechs in Israel urged to exercise caution

Czech authorities have urged citizens in Israel to exercise increased caution due to possible escalation between the United States and Iran. The Foreign Ministry advised Czechs to monitor local media and follow security instructions. The U.S. Embassy in Israel has allowed non-essential staff and family members to leave over security concerns. Travelers are advised to consider departure while commercial flights remain available.

Heat spike

Czechia sees first warm temperatures of 2026

Temperatures in Czechia exceeded 20 degrees Celsius for the first time this year on Friday, with 20.7 degrees recorded in České Budějovice. Several locations in South Bohemia approached or passed 19 degrees, and more daily or monthly records may be broken. Moravia remained cooler at around 10 degrees, while northwest Bohemia saw temperatures near 5 degrees. Forecasters expect continued warm, dry weather, though further highs are unlikely in the coming days.

Cybersecurity threats

Rising foreign cyber attacks reported

Czechia recorded 203 cyber attacks in 2025, with the most serious threats originating abroad, targeting government institutions and strategic infrastructure, according to the Europe in Data portal and NUKIB. Twelve incidents were classified as significant and two as very significant. Experts say state-sponsored groups and advanced cybercriminals aim to steal data, disrupt services, and undermine public trust. Citizens are advised to maintain digital hygiene, including two-factor authentication, to reduce risks.

Crime trends

Crime among foreigners in Czechia falls

The number of crimes committed by foreigners in Czechia fell last year, as did the number of prosecuted foreign nationals, according to police data. Despite this, the government plans tougher penalties and stricter residency rules, arguing the foreign share of overall crime is rising. Ukrainian nationals account for a growing number of suspects in absolute terms, but their share of prosecutions remains slightly below their proportion of the population.

Police investigation

Two found dead in Písek storage container

Police in Písek are investigating the deaths of two people found Friday inside a shipping container used for storage. According to officers, there are no initial signs of violent crime. The victims may have been homeless individuals staying in the container. Authorities have ordered autopsies to determine the exact cause of death. Further details have not yet been released as the investigation continues.

POLL RESULTS: A January CVVM survey showed strong approval for President Petr Pavel, with 77 percent of Czechs in favor of his representation of Czechia abroad. The president was even more popular among our readers—90 percent called him a true ambassador, 4 percent said he could do better, and 6 percent felt he does not represent the country effectively.
