Czech fuel prices reach multi-year levels

Fuel prices in the Czech Republic have climbed to multi-year highs, with diesel at its most expensive level in four years and gasoline in over three. According to CCS data, diesel rose to CZK 48.39 per liter and gasoline to CZK 41.63. The surge follows rising oil prices linked to the Israel-Iran conflict 2026. The government plans to cap fuel margins, cut diesel excise tax and set daily maximum prices to curb costs.

Young boy delivers father's Easter beer

Police in the Czech Republic shared a lighthearted Easter story after stopping a young boy transporting a case of beer in a toy car for his father. Officers said no laws were broken, as the child was supervised and not driving a real vehicle. The incident, posted on social media, highlighted festive traditions and ended with police wishing the public a happy Easter.

Cold spell ahead for Czechia

After near-summer warmth through the long Easter weekend, the Czech Republic will see a cool-down this week, with daily highs ranging from 16 °C at the start to 14 °C by week’s end, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute said. The northeast will experience sharper drops, with highs around 8 °C and occasional snow above 500–800 meters. Nights will remain below freezing, reaching as low as –4 °C, while showers are expected intermittently throughout the week.

Record number of students to take leaving exams

A record 84,249 Czech high school students will take the state school-leaving exam for the first time in May, up 4.2 percent from last year, according to Cermat. Czech language is mandatory, while about 80 percent of first-time candidates chose English as their second subject. Including repeat takers, roughly 89,150 students are registered. Didactic tests run May 4–6, with results expected by May 15.

Paul Simon kicks off concert series in Prague

Singer-songwriter Paul Simon will play three chamber concerts at the Prague Congress Center from April 9-12 on his A Quiet Celebration Tour. The 84-year-old will perform his 2023 album Seven Psalms in full, followed by classic hits including “The Sound of Silence” and “The Boxer,” organizers said. Simon, a 12-time Grammy winner, rose to fame with Art Garfunkel and remains one of music’s most widely acclaimed writers.
