Starting June 26, Prague will face widespread road and public transit disruptions due to essential infrastructure repairs. Here’s a detailed guide to help drivers and commuters plan ahead this summer (and beyond).

MAJOR ROAD CLOSURES

  • Plzeňská Street (Prague 5): Repair work starts June 26, when the road will be part shut. From July 16 until the end of the summer holidays, the stretch between Kartouzská and Erbenova streets will be fully closed to cars and buses. In the first 11 days of July, tams at Anděl will be detoured via Nádražní, Za Ženskými domovy, and Radlická.
  • Radlická Street (Prague 5): This major Prague 5 street will face partial traffic restrictions from August to November.
  • Karlovarská Street (Prague 6): A full closure is scheduled from July 1 to Aug. 31 to replace worn surfaces. This busy route connects the D6 motorway to Prague, so expect significant delays.
  • Cínovecká Street (Prague 8): Partial closures and bridge repairs will last through October, starting early July. This key link to the D8 motorway will face lane restrictions.
  • Kbelská Street (Prague 14): Based near Prague’s Kbely Airport, weekend traffic will be affected by partial closures throughout summer and fall in preparation for major reconstruction.

Other affected streets include Jaromírova (one-way closures), Šárecká, Za Ženskými domovy, Peroutkova, Českobrodská, Veletržní, and Ďáblická, all seeing phased or ongoing work.

Tram Disruptions

  • Muzeum-Vinohrady-I.P. Pavlova area (Prague 1,2): Trams between Muzeum and I.P. Pavlova (also intersecting Vinohradská Street) are as of last weekend suspended, with lines 11 and 13 rerouted for about 20 months.
  • Jana Želivského Street (Prague 3): Partial closure starting October, impacting line 10, 15, 11, and 26.
  • Plzeňská Street (Prague 5): Tram lines 9 and 10 won’t run on this street between June 28 and July 12.
  • Nádražní Street (Prague 5): There will be a complete suspension of tram operations here from July 19–27 for a new railway bridge installation. This affects lines 4, 5, 12, and 20.
  • Svatovítská Street (Prague 6): Trams out of service Aug. 22–31 between Prašný most and Vítězné náměstí, affecting routes 18 and 20.

metro

  • Pražského povstání to Nádraží Holešovice (Line C): July 3–7
  • Chodov to Muzeum (Line C): Aug. 2–8
  • Chodov to Nádraží Holešovice (Line C): Aug. 9–10

Preparations for the Flora station reconstruction on line A will begin late this year but won’t affect service in the coming months.

The foyer of Florenc station (the line C section) will be reconstructed, but authorities have not yet announced dates. This should not impact metro service but may affect getting around the station.

Replacement buses, typically named XC or starting with an “X,” will operate during metro shutdowns.

how can I best prepare?
