March is shaping up to be a month of truly exciting events. From new jazz to bubblegum pop, carnival parties to vegetarian celebrations, and much, much more. Take a look at my top picks for March, I think you’ll agree that there are plenty of activities and events for all!

FILM FESTIVALS

4 – 13 – One World 2013: The 15th annual International Festival of Documentary Films on Human Rights will take place in various cinemas in the city. A selection of films that reflect the growing pressure caused by economic development and its social impacts. Check out our preview here.

5 – 10 – Shockproof Film Festival: It’s only a movie! Aero’s festival of cinematic oddities returns with a premiere of Park Chan-Wook’s Stoker. Check out our preview here.

15 – 22 – Febio Fest 2013: Prague’s largest film festival – now in it’s 20th year – hits CineStar Anděl from March 15 – 22. Get your tickets early!

DESIGN

20 – 24 – Designblok Premier Fashion Week: A series of events featuring the showrooms of respected labels as well as the new up & coming stars.

23 – Spring Dyzajn Market: Upcoming Czech designers show off their newest personal works for sale at good prices! Head down and expect bargains!

FOOD & DRINK

1 – 17 – VegetFest: A celebration of vegetables. Fill up on your greens at this healthy event! Check event website for further details.

31 – Easter Family Brunch: The best family brunch in Prague. What better way to spend an Easter morning!

MUSIC

3 – Olga Peretyatko: The Russian soprano with a truly wonderful voice performs in the Municipal House’s Smetana Hall.

3 – Kid Koala’s 12-Bit Blues Vinyl Vaudeville Show
Trivia: Aside from being a hugely successful DJ, Kid Koala is also the author of a couple of graphic novels! He also has the longest show name in history!

4 – Lunice: This Canadian producer/DJ crash lands in Prague for a rare show. Lucerna Music Bar will host the electronic scene’s progeny. Hipsters and cool kids unite for an evening of fresh music!

6 – Mumford & Sons: British bluegrass and folk instrumentation from the UK. The hugely successful band plays Prague’s Lucerna Music Bar.

11 – Mahala Rai Banda: Bucharest-based gypsy ghetto blasters formed by violinist and composer Aurel Lonitsa.

12 – Eric Truffaz Quartet feat. Anna Aaron: The very best of contemporary Swiss music will be presented for all in attendance. Head to Prague’s Archa Theatre to enjoy the contemporary sounds!

14 – Gregory Porter: The fantastic new voice of Jazz returns to Prague!

15 – Example: Elliot does it all! The electronic/dance/rap superstar hits Prague for what promises to be another electrifying show from the multi-talented vocalist!

21 – Jessie Ware: Fource Entertainment brings the pop princess turned soul supremo for a very special Prague show! This is definitely a date for any music lover’s diary!

22 – What the Folk?: A selection of alternative folk stylings, local boys done good! “Mind blowing” folk from Glitter Vomit, Jenn Kelly, Peter LeCouteur and Ken Nash!

27 – Mick Hucknall: Former Simply Red front-man sings soulful jams in Prague’s Kongresové centrum. Simply exciting!

CULTURAL EVENTS

1 – Carnival Fest 2013: SaSaZu hosts the event of all events! Expect dancing, costumes and masks!

1- 31 – Swiss Spring: A multifunctional programme organised by the Swiss Embassy together with Swiss- based partners.
