🍿 NOW IN CINEMAS

Caught Stealing is a crime drama with elements of dark comedy set in late-1990s New York City, following former baseball prospect Hank Thompson (Austin Butler) as he becomes entangled with rival gangs while navigating personal challenges.

Directed by Darren Aronofsky and adapted from Charlie Huston’s novel, the film blends comedy and thriller tropes and highlights the city as both backdrop and character. The Prague Reporter calls it “a sharp, stylish thriller that honors its pulp roots while carving out its own identity.”

A British couple played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman navigate marriage, careers, and family life in California in The Roses, now playing in Czech cinemas. Directed by Jay Roach from a screenplay by Tony McNamara, the film adapts Warren Adler’s novel The War of the Roses for a modern audience.

The story tracks the couple from their early romance to domestic tensions and professional challenges, culminating in a comic, over-the-top third act. The Prague Reporter says it is "a handsome and well-acted reimagining of Adler’s novel bolstered by a pair of strong performances, but one that never fully commits to either domestic drama or dark comedy."

🦈 50 years of Jaws

Jaws returns to Czech cinemas (including IMAX) for its 50th anniversary this week, offering audiences a chance to see Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic on the big screen. The film follows a New England town terrorized by a great white shark and the three men who set out to stop it.

Starring Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, and Robert Shaw, the movie became a landmark in cinematic history and established the summer blockbuster model. In addition to the theatrical re-release, a new documentary on the making of the movie, Jaws at 50: The Definitive Inside Story, is now streaming on Disney+. The movie itself is streaming on Netflix in the Czech Republic.

📺 NEW TO STREAMING

A prequel to the hit action series, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf follows ex-SEAL turned CIA operative Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch) on missions before the events of the original series. The ensemble cast includes Tom Hopper as Raife Hastings, Robert Wisdom as a CIA spymaster, and Luke Hemsworth in a supporting role.

The series also provides additional context for characters from the original show, including Chris Pratt's James Reece. The first three episodes of Dark Wolf are now streaming on Prime Video, with new episodes released weekly on Wednesdays.

A crime-comedy adaptation of Richard Osman’s bestselling books, The Thursday Murder Club follows four retirees who trade bingo nights for amateur sleuthing at their English retirement home. The group, played by Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie, becomes involved in a murder investigation that turns their hobby into a real whodunit.

Directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone), the film combines mystery and comedy as the characters navigate clues and unexpected twists. Now streaming on Netflix.
