The actions of outgoing U.S. President Donald Trump during the storming of the U.S. Capitol last week were cowardly, Czech President Miloš Zeman told tabloid daily Blesk today.

Trump did not admit defeat and his departure is shameful, Zeman added.

"Donald Trump did not acknowledge his defeat, did not learn a lesson, but even worse - he incited thousands of people outside the Capitol and eventually inside the Capitol," Zeman said.

"He indirectly caused death of five people who were among his supporters."

Zeman said he cannot remember any other U.S. president leaving office in such a disgraceful fashion.

On the other hand, Zeman said he opposes online censorship, and against the blocking of Trump’s Twitter account.

He also praised Trump's support for Israel.

U.S. Congress met on Wednesday to confirm the results of the presidential vote, in which Trump was defeated by his Democratic rival Joe Biden, but it had to interrupt its session after pro-Trump demonstrators broke into the Capitol.

Congress later confirmed Biden’s victory in the autumn elections on Thursday.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) called the violent protests an unprecedented attack on democracy. Other Czech politicians condemned the protests as well.
