🇬🇧 This Week's English-Friendly Screenings

The Disappearance of Josef Mengele follows the Nazi doctor’s decades on the run in South America, tracing his life in exile across Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil after Auschwitz. Starring August Diehl as Mengele, the film premiered at Cannes last year and arrives in Prague as a stark historical thriller about the lingering afterlife of fascism.

The Prague Reporter calls it “a striking, noir-inflected thriller” that “never lets the weight of his crimes recede from view.” The Disappearance of Josef Mengele plays with English subtitles at Edison Filmhub and Kino Atlas in Prague from May 7.

🎞️ The Throwback

Jiří Krejčík’s classic morality tale A Higher Principle (Vyšší princip) screens with English subtitles at Kino Aero on May 7 as part of the Some Like It Czech series, bringing one of the key works of postwar Czech cinema back to the big screen.

The 1960 drama, based on Jan Drda’s story inspired by real events during the Heydrich-era reprisals, is set in a small-town gymnasium under Nazi occupation. When three students are arrested after a minor act of defiance, their teacher is forced to confront the moral collapse around him.
