In 2019, during Andrej Babiš’s first term as Prime Minister, some 250,000 people gathered on Letná plain in Prague in what would become the biggest demonstration since the Velvet Revolution that toppled communism.

Last month, Million Moments for Democracy, the well-known grassroots and civic movement that has spearheaded many protests since then, including a February march in support of President Pavel, announced plans for another Letná demonstration.

Speaking at last month's protest, the group’s leader Mikuláš Minář told activists, “This is no longer just about the president. This is about all of us.” Minář went on to say. “It’s time to make it clear that we are not Hungary or Slovakia, and that we will not let a group of oligarchs, extremists, and thugs steal the future of our country.”
