Summary for: Prague expands year-round fireworks ban to 35 city districtsPrague is expanding its year-round ban on private fireworks, with 35 of the capital's 57 municipal districts now prohibiting their use across their entire territory — including on New Year's Eve.
Prague City Assembly approved an amendment allowing another 15 districts to introduce blanket bans, joining 20 that had already opted for the restrictions.
The new rules significantly expand Prague's previous approach, under which fireworks were prohibited in sensitive areas including the historic center and around waterways, hospitals and other designated locations.
"Originally, 20 municipal districts used this option. Now another 15 are joining them," Prague councilor for legislation Adam Zábranský said.
Where will fireworks be banned?
The year-round ban will apply throughout Prague 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20 and 22.
It also covers Dolní Chabry, Dolní Měcholupy, Křeslice, Libuš, Suchdol, Troja, Velká Chuchle, Benice, Čakovice, Dolní Počernice, Lochkov, Nebušice, Nedvězí, Petrovice, Přední Kopanina, Řeporyje, Slivenec and Zličín.
The restriction applies throughout the year, meaning the usual New Year's Eve exception does not apply in those districts.
In Prague's remaining 22 municipal districts, private pyrotechnics can still be used during a limited window from 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 2 a.m. on Jan. 1.
The ordinance does not apply to organized professional fireworks displays carried out by specialized companies.
Sky lanterns and other pyrotechnic products that fly uncontrolled also remain prohibited throughout Prague because of their fire risk.
Prague has progressively tightened rules on fireworks in recent years amid concerns over safety, noise, animals and damage. Previous restrictions already covered much of the city center and sensitive locations, but the latest expansion means private fireworks will now be prohibited across most of the capital's major residential districts as well.
