Mobile Services In the Czech Republic Among EU’s Most Expensive

According to a report from today’s iDnes, the European Commission (EC) has confirmed what has long been speculated by mobile phone users in the Czech Republic by comparing current operator offers across the European Union.

The comparison of consumer mobile and data services, taking into account purchasing power parity, has shown that Czech operators are among the most expensive providers of electronic communications in the EU.

The study provides comprehensive data on 2017 retail prices of mobile broadband offers for consumers in the 28 EU countries, Iceland, Norway, Turkey, Japan, South Korea, and the USA. Research is based on data collected from mobile operators’ websites in February 2017.

In terms of pure data services, Poland, Italy, Austria, Lithuania, and Latvia were the countries with the cheapest data plans last year.

The most expensive countries are Greece, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, and Hungary.

Those living in the Czech Republic paid more than half the European average.

For example, 20 GB of data, according to EC data, costs an average 33.12 EUR (almost 850 CZK) in the in EU, but in the Czech Republic, the cost of purchasing power parity is 55.45 EUR (roughly CZK 1,400).

“In every usage basket, the least expensive offer in the Czech is significantly above the EU average,” the overview for the Czech Republic states.
