Swapping events are nothing new but in an era of fast fashions and plastic bans, reducing one’s personal consumption by exchanging or donating unwanted items in lieu of new matters even more.

Here in the Czech capital, the movement is booming. One of the largest Facebook groups devoted to swapping, Swap Prague counts 6,000+ members and hosts regular swap meet-ups in association with like-minded communities and partners such as Sustainable Chic and Room by Room.

One of the more interesting events coming up on their ongoing roster of swap meets will take place this weekend, a large-scale second-hand IKEA exchange devoted to pillow cases, kitchen gadgets, and the like.

Taking place at IKEA Point in Wenceslas Square on April 6-7, for a small fee visitors can leave or take as much as they’d like, keeping the principles of the initiative (exchanging only things in good condition and taking just what you truly need) in mind.

Pre-registration for the IKEA Point Housewares Swap is required and can be completed here.

For those who won’t be able to attend this weekend’s IKEA swap event, multiple wardrobe swaps are planned to take place at the upcoming Praguemarket (Náměstí Republiky) with dates throughout April and May (the market opens for the season on the weekend of April 13-14).

Later in April (4/26-4/27) the upcycling/DIY space Room by Room will co-host a swap in its open-air courtyard; houseplants and other small housewares as well as clothing and jewellery will be exchanged while Potex will be on hand to accept unwanted clothing donations.

To stay up to date on these and other swapping events, join the Swap Prague Facebook group.
