With Christmas less than a month away and sub-zero temperatures greeting the Czech capital, Prague has truly embraced winter and the festive spirit. On top of aesthetic Christmas markets and svařák-sipping evenings, ice skating is another beloved local activity this time of year.

There are around 20 ice rinks scattered throughout the city, giving you ample choice when it comes to finding a place to glide across the ice: whether you're a beginner or expert.

Almost all rinks offer hot drinks and snacks to enjoy during or after your skating session. Here’s what to look out for this year and where to go based on what you’re looking for.

Best for scenic spots

Head to the Vyšehrad ice rink for panoramic views of the city, including Prague's centuries-old fortress, or try the Rašínovo nábřeží rink (Petra Ice Rink) on Náplavka in Prague 2 for scenic Vltava River views.

Letná Plain rink boasts unobstructed city views from high up, while Žižkov TV Tower rink in Prague 3 shines beautifully at night. Havlíčkovy Sady rink in leafy Vinohrady is set among greenery near Villa Grébovka, and Wenceslas Square rink offers National Museum views, though it can get crowded.

Best for live music, performances, and atmosphere

For those who want to combine skating with a lively atmosphere, River Rink Karlín in Prague 8 is for you. Among the first rinks to have opened, it features live DJs, music, and performances almost every day, creating a true party-on-ice vibe. Terasa Smíchov in Prague 5 offers a similar energy, pairing live music with views of the city skyline.

Best for size

If you want a large space to roam on your skates, try out the ice rink on Letná Plain in Prague 7. It is the city's largest outdoor ice rink, with proportions of 43 x 20 meters. Other large rinks include the Na Františku rink in the city center, which comes in at a very similar 40 x 20 meters, and Ice rink Vypich, which is noted for its spaciousness, given its family-friendly theme.

After rooftop views?

As well as Terasa Smíchov, the Galerie Harfa rink (at the top of the shopping center) in Prague 9 offers pleasant views of the surroundings that are certainly worth seeing.

Best for your wallet

If you want to save some cash during the pricey Christmas period, head over to Ice Rink Vypich in Prague 6, which offers completely free entry to both children and adults. Newly opened for 2025-26, an ice rink in Barrandov Elementary School also offers free entry to all.

If you're going with kids, be sure to check out Sady Svatopluka Čecha and Ice rink Jammertal (Folimanka Park), both in Prague 2, which offer kids free entry and affordable prices for adults, at CZK 80 and CZK 50, respectively.

Find below a comprehensive list of all specially opened outdoor ice rinks open to the public in Prague this year, including opening dates, hours, entry fees, rental prices, and websites.

NOTE: The end dates of the ice rinks are heavily dependent on weather conditions; warm weather in January or February may see the rinks close sooner, as was the case last season.
