Can people still give artificial intelligence a competitive edge? And how do you turn a promising idea into an international business? Three English-language sessions at this year’s Data Festival VŠE will address those questions alongside the changing demands of data engineering.

The free festival takes place Tuesday, Nov. 3, in the Rajská Building at the Prague University of Economics and Business. This year’s theme, Data Jungle, brings together talks, workshops and opportunities to meet employers from the data industry.

The wider program is aimed at students, technology enthusiasts and industry professionals. English-speaking visitors can use the program’s language filter to identify the three sessions delivered entirely in English.

From data architecture to the limits of human-AI teamwork

The English program begins at 10:45 a.m. in room RB 210, where Stanislav Matoušek of MSD Czech Republic will present Chameleon or Dinosaur? Why Your Data Architecture Is Going Extinct.

His session will examine why traditional approaches to organizing and managing data are struggling to keep pace with technological change, and how AI-assisted engineering could help companies develop more adaptable systems.

At 1:15 p.m., also in RB 210, Paul Čejka will turn to the relationship between people and increasingly capable AI in AI: Requiem for the Centaur.

The talk draws on chess, where the “centaur” concept describes a partnership between a human player and a computer. Čejka will explore what happens when AI becomes powerful enough that human participation may no longer improve the outcome.

Together, the sessions approach AI from two directions: how organizations can use it to change their technical infrastructure, and how its capabilities could alter the value people contribute.

Startup advice and opportunities to meet employers

The final English-language session, From Idea to Startup: Build It, Validate It, Take It International, begins at 4 p.m. in room RB 209.

Organized in cooperation with the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of Spain in Prague, the panel will discuss developing an idea into a viable business, testing whether it has potential and preparing for international expansion.

Spain will be a particular focus, making the discussion relevant to prospective founders considering opportunities beyond the Czech market.

Between sessions, visitors can explore partner stands in the Rajská Building atrium. Representatives from the data industry will be available to discuss their work and potential career opportunities, including internships and jobs.

Admission is free, but registration through Eventee is required. Visitors should select the English-language filter when browsing the festival program to find the three sessions and plan their day.
