The National Translation Company recently compiled this infographic [BELOW] showing the greatest national mottos in the world, all translated to English.

It includes “some of the most interesting national slogans spanning from the old empires to some of the ‘youngest’ nations in the world.”

Fans of Czech history might find Austria’s rallying cry, “It’s Austria’s destiny to rule the world” to be apropos, while England’s “God and my right” takes on new dimensions following the Brexit shake up.

India and the Czech Republic share virtually the same motto, “truth alone triumphs” and “truth prevails” respectively.

The Czech “Pravda vítězí” was originally adopted by the first President of Czechoslovakia, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, in 1918 and later echoed in Václav Havel’s mantra, “Truth and love must prevail over lies and hatred” (Pravda a láska musí zvítězit nad lží a nenávistí).

The motto is still used today on the banner of the President of the Czech Republic. The phrase also appears along the base of the Jan Hus Memorial in Prague.

The motto is believed to be derived from Jan Hus’ phrase “Seek the truth, hear the truth, learn the truth, love the truth, speak the truth, hold the truth and defend the truth until death.”
