Czech tennis star Linda Nosková has won her first Grand Slam title after defeating fellow Czech Karolína Muchová in Saturday's Wimbledon women's singles final.
The 21-year-old claimed a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory on Centre Court, becoming the youngest Wimbledon women's champion in 15 years and continuing Czechia's remarkable success at the All England Club.
The all-Czech final guaranteed a Czech champion for the third time in four years, highlighting the country's continued strength in women's tennis.
Historic victory for Czech tennis
Nosková captured the biggest title of her career in her first Grand Slam final, overcoming a spirited comeback from Muchová, who saved five championship points in the second set before forcing a deciding set.
The victory makes Nosková only the second Czech player to win her Grand Slam final debut at Wimbledon, following her childhood idol Petra Kvitová, who won the title in 2011.
She's also the youngest Wimbledon winner since Kvitová, who was also 21 (but a few months younger) when she took the title in 2011. Kvitová watched Saturday's final from the Royal Box.
With the victory, Nosková is projected to rise to a career-high No. 7 in the WTA rankings. Muchová, competing in her second Grand Slam final after the 2023 French Open, is expected to climb to a career-best No. 6 despite the defeat.
Czech dominance continues
Nosková is the fifth Czech player to win a Grand Slam singles title and the third Czech woman to lift the Wimbledon trophy in the past four editions of the tournament, following wins by Barbora Krejčíková in 2024 and Markéta Vondroušová in 2023.
The final also marked a rare all-Czech championship match. It was the first Wimbledon women's final contested by two players from the same country since Serena and Venus Williams met in 2009.
After racing through the opening set, Nosková appeared poised for a straight-sets victory before Muchová mounted a dramatic fightback. However, the younger Czech regained control early in the deciding set and converted her sixth championship point to secure the Venus Rosewater Dish.
The title caps an outstanding grass-court season for Nosková, who also won the Berlin Open before Wimbledon. According to the WTA, she has recorded more tour-level grass-court victories than any other player since the start of last season.
