Czech weekend weather turns wet and chilly after Friday’s sunny spell

Czechia’s run of mild autumn weather is expected to give way to cloudier skies and rain this weekend, with temperatures falling noticeably by Sunday.

Friday will offer the brightest and warmest conditions, with afternoon highs reaching 19 degrees Celsius. Rain is expected to arrive from the west Saturday, followed by a cooler Sunday when temperatures will mostly stay below 14 degrees.

The outlook comes from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute’s weekly forecast, which also warns of possible ground frost on some nights.

Temperatures have gradually climbed this week. Monday’s highs were generally around 14 degrees Celsius, rising to between 16 and 17 degrees Wednesday. Parts of South Moravia exceeded 19 degrees.

Friday, Oct. 16, should bring partly cloudy to mostly clear skies and afternoon temperatures between 14 and 19 degrees Celsius. Cloud will begin spreading in from the northwest toward evening.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy to overcast, with rain and showers moving in from the west, particularly across Bohemia, the western part of the country that includes Prague. Daytime temperatures will range from 12 to 17 degrees Celsius.

Sunday will feel considerably cooler. Highs are forecast at between nine and 14 degrees Celsius across most of Czechia, although South Moravia could still reach 16 degrees. Cloudy skies and further rain are expected.

Ground frost is possible overnight Friday into Saturday and again overnight Sunday into Monday.

The unsettled conditions are expected to ease at the start of next week. Monday should bring clearer skies and a modest recovery in daytime temperatures, with highs between 12 and 17 degrees Celsius.

Similar temperatures could continue over the following days, according to the forecast.

For anyone planning an outdoor trip, Friday currently offers the best combination of sunshine and warmth. Weekend plans should allow for rain, particularly in Bohemia on Saturday, and a cooler afternoon Sunday.
