Prague police are searching for a man suspected of attacking a Black Czech woman while she was walking with her 13-year-old daughter in Prague 10. Investigators are treating the incident as a suspected hate crime.
The attack occurred around 2 p.m. on Sept. 26 in Bajkalská street, according to the police appeal, published Tuesday.
Woman reported racial abuse before assault
The woman and her daughter were walking from Kubánské náměstí when a stranger approached and told her in English to “Go back to your country.”
When she replied that she was Czech, he allegedly shouted racist insults before kicking her legs and punching her head.
Police said she suffered bruising and a superficial head injury. The attacker also damaged her phone and tore her coat, causing an estimated CZK 19,000 in damage.
He then fled along Bajkalská toward Karpatská street.
Police release sketch and request witnesses
The suspect is described as a white man aged approximately 23 to 25, around 180 centimeters tall, with a slim, athletic build.
He had shoulder-length curly blond hair, noticeably lighter at the ends, and light stubble. He wore a hooded sports jacket combining yellow, green and dark gray or black, dark jeans and light-colored athletic shoes. He spoke fluent Czech without an accent.
Police prepared a composite sketch with the woman’s assistance. They ask witnesses and anyone who recognizes the suspect to call 158.
If caught and convicted of the offenses under investigation, he could face up to three years in prison.
