Czech weekend brings sunshine and frosty mornings, with fog lingering in the west

Czechia is set for a mostly sunny weekend, but clear skies will come with frosty mornings and daytime temperatures no higher than 10 degrees Celsius.

Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8, should bring broadly similar conditions, according to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ). Sunday is expected to be slightly colder.

The main exception to the sunshine will be areas affected by fog and low cloud, particularly in western Bohemia, where gray conditions could persist throughout the day.

Meteorologists expect sunshine across much of the country, with low cloud also occurring in Bohemia.

Fog will be most likely in the western half of Bohemia. It may be freezing overnight and in the morning, and could remain in place all day in some locations.

The ČHMÚ weekly forecast puts the lowest overnight temperatures in valleys at around minus 6 degrees. Those lows apply to colder locations rather than the whole country.

Afternoon temperatures will climb to a maximum of approximately 10 degrees, with a modest cooling expected Sunday.

For anyone planning an outdoor trip, the regional difference will matter: a forecast of generally sunny weather does not guarantee clear skies in places where fog or low cloud becomes established.

Friday should be clear or partly cloudy, with isolated morning fog that may initially be freezing.

Low cloud is expected to increase during the afternoon and evening in the north and northeast, and later in the southwest. Daytime highs will again be around 10 degrees, with some places potentially a little warmer.

The colder mornings have already arrived. Early Thursday, temperatures generally ranged from 2 degrees above freezing to minus 3.

The station at Velké Chvojno in the Ústí nad Labem Region recorded almost minus 7, making it the coldest location highlighted in ČHMÚ’s Thursday update.

The outlook points to a weekend suited to daytime walks where skies remain clear, but with a distinctly colder start and finish to the day. Early departures could involve freezing fog, while western Bohemia faces the greatest chance of spending the day beneath persistent low cloud.
