1️⃣ President Pavel to honor 48 figures at Czechoslovakia founding anniversary
Czechs commemorate 107 years since Czechoslovakia’s founding with ceremonies in Prague and nationwide. President Petr Pavel will appoint new generals and later award 48 citizens at Prague Castle. Morning wreath-laying ceremonies take place at Vítkov Memorial and Masaryk Monument, continuing a long-standing national tradition. Commemorative and memorial events also take place throughout the country, for example, in Lány, Brno, Olomouc, Pardubice, and Znojmo.
2️⃣ Public can tour parliament and ministries on Czechoslovakia anniversary
To mark Czechoslovakia’s founding, the Chamber of Deputies and Senate open their historic halls to visitors. Free tours at Prague’s Thun, Wallenstein, and Kolovrat Palaces run through the day. Senate Speaker Miloš Vystrčil will host debates and greet guests personally. Visitors can view exhibitions and rarely seen government buildings. On this holiday, retail stores larger than 200 square meters, including general or department stores, close.
3️⃣ Track work halts metro B between Florenc and Vysočanská, trams replace service
Prague’s metro line B is closed between Florenc and Vysočanská for track reconstruction at Českomoravská station. Shuttle trains run on one track between Vysočanská and Černý Most. Replacement tram XB and lines 3, 8, and 12 provide alternate service. The closure repeats Nov. 1–2. Inputting your journey on the DPP website (available in English) will allow you to check whether your commute or planned route will be disrupted.
4️⃣ Babiš meets new U.S. envoy Merrick, highlights economic and security ties
ANO leader Andrej Babiš and ANO deputy Karel Havlíček met new U.S. Ambassador Nicholas Merrick to discuss economic cooperation and defense. Babiš called the U.S. an irreplaceable partner in security. Merrick pledged to strengthen NATO readiness as allies aim for 5 percent defense spending by 2035, a target Babiš earlier deemed unrealistic. American President Donald Trump described Merrick as a respected businessman and educator this year.
5️⃣ Pavel tells diplomats Russia remains key threat to Europe
President Petr Pavel told diplomats that Russia continues to threaten European freedom and democracy, praising Czechia’s firm stance for law and truth. Speaking before the Oct. 28 national holiday, he also cited global challenges such as disinformation and climate change, while noting fragile progress in the Middle East and hopes for peace talks. "Our focus on security is not about preparing for war, but about protecting peace," the president said.
