Czech speed skater Sáblíková ends legendary career
Czech speed skating star Martina Sáblíková has ended her career at the World Allround Championships in Heerenveen. The 38-year-old three-time Olympic champion skated her final race in the 3000 metres, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd at the Thialf arena. Sáblíková, a 21-time world champion and the most successful Czech Winter Olympian, decided to retire after struggling with health issues following the recent Winter Olympics.

Macinka: Most Czechs in Middle East not seeking return
About 4,300 Czech citizens are currently registered in the Foreign Ministry’s Drozd system in countries affected by the U.S.–Israel–Iran conflict, roughly 600 fewer than on Friday. According to Foreign Minister Petr Macinka, most have not requested repatriation. Additional government and commercial flights are scheduled to bring hundreds more people back to Prague early Sunday. Since the start of the conflict, thousands have already returned to Czechia.

Egg prices in Czechia expected to keep rising
Egg prices in Czechia are expected to rise further due to avian flu outbreaks and costly upgrades of poultry farms. According to the Czech Statistical Office, a pack of ten eggs averaged about CZK 78.29 last December. Producers say the transition away from cage systems before a planned 2027 ban and poultry culling linked to avian influenza are pushing prices higher.

Firefighters rescue explorers trapped in mine tunnels
Firefighters rescued four men exploring historic mine tunnels near Vlastejovice after their flashlights ran out of batteries, leaving them unable to find the exit. A friend waiting at the meeting point alerted authorities when the group failed to return and phones were unreachable. Rescue teams, including local cavers with tunnel maps, located the explorers despite difficult terrain and safely brought them back to the surface uninjured.

New exhibit marks Masaryk's birth anniversary
Visitors gathered in Lány on Saturday to mark the 176th anniversary of the birth of Czechoslovakia’s first president, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. The local museum opened a new exhibition highlighting how he communicated with the public and the media. The program also included guided tours and commemorative events, alongside displays of historical artifacts and traditional recipes linked to Masaryk’s family and life. Masaryk lived in Lány for many years after becoming President.
