Caravan named best film at Czech Lion Awards

The film Caravan, directed by Zuzana Kirchnerová, won best film at the Czech Lion Awards honoring Czech productions from 2025. Acting prizes went to Idan Weiss for Franz, Kateřina Falbrová for Broken Voices, Dũng Nguyễn for Summer School, 2001, and Juliána Brutovská for Caravan. The TV series Studna was named best series or miniseries. Franz, directed by Agnieszka Holland, also received several technical awards.

Police chase wild boar through Prague

Police and city wardens spent about an hour chasing an injured wild boar through Prague’s Černý Most district on Saturday afternoon. The animal ran through residential areas toward the Rajská zahrada metro and the Westfield shopping center, prompting multiple emergency calls. During the incident, the boar knocked over a child riding a bicycle, though the cyclist was not injured. The animal later disappeared into a nearby forest after crossing the metro terminal area.

Analysts expect Czech rates to remain steady

Analysts expect the Czech National Bank to keep its key interest rate unchanged at 3.5 percent at Thursday’s meeting. Economists say the current conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States has had only limited impact on the Czech economy so far. The central bank has held rates at 3.5 percent since May 2025, with analysts seeing no immediate need for monetary policy changes.

Siniaková wins Indian Wells doubles title

Czech tennis player Kateřina Siniaková won the women’s doubles title at Indian Wells Open with American partner Taylor Townsend, defeating Aleksandra Krunić and Anna Danilina 7–6, 6–4 in the final. The victory marks Siniaková’s 34th career doubles title and her second triumph at the California tournament. The Czech player will move up from third to second in the WTA doubles rankings.

Music festival marks Czech underground arrests

Hundreds of independent culture supporters attended a festival at Prague's MeetFactory marking 50 years since the 1976 arrests of Czech underground artists. The event featured lectures by František Čuňas Stárek and historian Petr Blažek, plus performances by Plastic People of the Universe, Vratislav Brabenec, Bílé světlo, Umělá hmota, and Nadnárodní obrození. The festival closed with a tribute to original Plastic People founder Milan Hlavsa by Jan Vozára.
