Prague, Sept 8 (CTK) – Health Minister Adam Vojtech (for ANO) wants to introduce a bill limiting advertising of tobacco and alcohol products online and on television by the end of the year, Vojtech told the Czech commercial television station Prima today.

Vojtech and Bohuslav Svoboda, a deputy for the opposition Civic Democratic Party (ODS), agreed that the attention should be focused on the use of electronic cigarettes whose impact on the health had not been sufficiently examined.

“According to international comparisons, the Czech Republic still assumes top places in alcohol consumption,” Vojtech said, adding that some children first try alcohol at the age of 12.

Experts warn that excessive drinking of alcohol would be curbed most efficiently by a regulation of the advertising and increased alcohol tax.

In July, the Chamber of Deputies enacted a rise in the tax on liquor, tobacco and gambling.

The excise tax on wine is zero and when it comes to beer, it differs according to the size of the brewery, but it is lower than the tax on liquor.

Svoboda has warned that if the prices are increased too much, people will prefer cheaper alcohol of a poor quality.
