Taipei, Sept 1 (CTK) – Czech expatriates living in Taiwan support the trip of Senate chairman Miloš Vystrčil to the country and appreciate his courage in visiting with a delegation of Czech senators and entrepreneurs, they told CTK today when they met him.

“It is fantastic. We are very glad about it and we support him so much,” Lukáš Řihák, who has been living in Taiwan for three years, said about Vystrčil.

With his Taiwanese wife, Řihák lives in a rural farmland area of the island where tea is grown.

He said even local farmers reacted very positively to Vystrčil’s visit.

“We were surprised by people who we would not have expected to know about the visit. Their reactions are very positive,” Rihak said.

Marcel Delong, who teaches English in Taiwan, said he has great respect for Vystrčil and his team.

“I am very happy that finally somebody dared to take a whole delegation and come here,” he told CTK.

The local people “appreciate it very much because nobody else had the courage to do this in the last 40 or 45 years,” Delong said.

He said this visit to Taiwan is of big importance for the Czech Republic, even though not all Czech politicians agree with it.

Delong spent a big part of his life in Britain where he met his Taiwanese wife and they decided to move to her homeland.

“It is a wonderful place. It is not easy here, but it is worth it,” he said.

Řihák met his wife in Australia. When they visited her family in Taiwan, they decided to stay. He said he plays football here.

“We have our own club, we focus on young people. We try to improve football and bring new energy from Europe,” Řihák said.
