Loners (Samotáři) captures Prague at the turn of the millennium through seven young people stumbling through relationships, breakups and the search for connection. The 2000 bittersweet comedy has become a Czech cult classic, preserving the music, nightlife and post-communist optimism and uncertainty of a generation finding its way.
Why watch now: More than 25 years after its release, Loners remains an evocative snapshot of young life in Prague, with many of its observations about relationships and urban isolation holding up remarkably well. The film screens with English subtitles at Kino Aero on Sept. 22, opening the sixth season of the English-friendly Some Like It Czech series.
