Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are becoming a staple in the lives of Czech youth, with almost nine in 10 individuals aged 12 to 17 regularly using them, according to a survey presented by research agency Ipsos and telecoms firm Vodafone. The study found that nearly two-thirds of young people use AI in school, while four-fifths rely on it outside of the classroom.

Popular AI tools among this demographic include Duolingo, Google Lens, ChatGPT, and Snapchat My AI. While Google Lens is the most utilized tool for educational purposes, ChatGPT and Duolingo also see significant usage outside the classroom.

Despite the growing reliance on AI, three-quarters of students expressed a lack of teachers proficient in these technologies. “It’s important to have teachers who understand and can work with AI in the classroom,” the survey noted, adding that teachers tend to regulate AI usage rather than schools implementing broader policies.

All generations lean on AI

A separate survey by digital marketing firm Enehano revealed that 36 percent of Czechs have tried ChatGPT, with nearly two-thirds at least familiar with it. The technology is especially popular among younger adults, with 52 percent of those under 26 actively using it.

“The numbers of the upcoming generation show quite clearly where the future lies,” said Michal Peška, co-founder of Enehano. “More than a quarter of young people use ChatGPT regularly, with many relying on it weekly or even daily.”

Young professionals frequently use AI chatbots like ChatGPT as work assistants. One in five young users actively incorporates such tools into their jobs, and 33 percent believe AI could significantly assist them in the workplace.

While adoption among individuals is high, the systematic integration of AI in businesses and organizations remains limited. Martin Franc, director of the AI startup Rossie.AI, pointed to potential applications like call monitoring, email classification, and automated task management as examples of how generative AI could transform workflows.

“Turning the possibilities of generative AI into functioning and beneficial tools or solutions is the main challenge we are now focusing on,” Franc said.

Despite the optimism, some skepticism remains. About 7 percent of respondents said using AI tools like ChatGPT in their work would make sense but were unwilling to adopt them. Additionally, 2 percent expressed concerns about ChatGPT.

Many are worried about a future potential over-reliance on AI for studying, or concerned about workplace automation. Last year, Labor Minister Marian Jurečka estimated that 300,000 job positions would disappear nationwide due to AI within just eight years.
