Passengers on a low-cost Ryanair flight from London were surprised this week when Czech President Petr Pavel was spotted boarding the plane without any apparent special privileges. A video of Pavel walking up the stairs to the aircraft quickly went viral on social media, drawing attention to the unusual scene.
The video showed the president joining other passengers without priority boarding, with two men in suits (likely security) behind him.
According to Czech daily Blesk, Pavel was in the UK for a short private trip and covered all related expenses himself. Officials confirmed the trip was unrelated to his normal duties.
Pavel has had a busy schedule in recent days. Last week, he attended high-profile international events in the U.S., including addressing the UN General Assembly and participating in a session of the UN Security Council.
He was also present at the opening of a Czech UNICEF exhibition in New York and delivered a speech at Harvard University.
Pavel has not publicly commented on the video, but the footage remains widely shared as an example of a world leader traveling in an unconventional manner.
