🎞️ The Throwback
Actress Věra Křesadlová, Miloš Forman’s second wife and mother to his twin sons, passed away last week at 81. One of her most memorable roles was in the Czech classic Intimate Lighting, which is currently streaming in a newly-restored version with English subtitles at dafilms.com.
Directed by Ivan Passer, the gentle comedy-drama follows a musician visiting his rural hometown and finding quiet humor in everyday life. The film was hailed as "one of the finest works of the short-lived Czech New Wave," by Dave Kehr, who wrote that "Passer has forged something funny and rare: a genuine comedy of melancholy—a gray comedy."
